Dr. Christine Clavell is a board certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in diseases of the retina and vitreous.  Dr. Clavell is originally from New York City.  Following high school, she gained admission to a competitive combined B.S. / M.D. program called the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education.  Through this program, Dr. Clavell earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedicine from the City College of New York, and her Medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine.  She graduated from Downstate College of Medicine at the top of her class, with Summa Cum Laude honors, and she received numerous awards for her academic achievements, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Clavell completed a preliminary year in Internal Medicine at New York University-Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, New York.  She subsequently went on to complete her Ophthalmology residency training at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School (formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey).  Thereafter, she went on to complete a sub-specialty fellowship in Medical Retina & Molecular Ophthalmology at the prestigious Ophthalmology Department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Clavell has been with DaVita Medical Group since October 2017.  As a passionate doctor, she is actively engaged in educating future doctors and holds the title of Clinical Assistant Professor at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She speaks fluent Spanish, and currently lives in Albuquerque with her husband and three sons.  They enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and swimming.
