Overview

Our ABQ Health Partners Diabetes Education Clinic was developed in 1983 to help New Mexicans cope with a rate of diabetes higher than the national average.  As New Mexico’s largest and most complete program of its type, we offer a range of outpatient services that are covered by most health care insurance plans.  Our program has been accredited by the American Diabetes Association since 1993 and the American Association of Diabetes Educators since 2008.  Because diabetes requires ongoing self-management and discipline, the Diabetes Education Team helps people get the information they need to make informed choices in their daily lives.  Early diagnosis and treatment can decrease your risk of developing serious medical complications, including blindness, heart disease, nerve damage and kidney damage.  We help patients use the latest treatment, tools and information to properly manage their care.  We offer group and individual classes for Diabetes Management as well as group classes for Pre- Diabetes Management

Self-management education may include:

  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)
  • Coping
  • Exercise
  • Insulin and medications
  • Insulin pumps
  • Intensive management
  • Meal planning
  • Pre-conception planning
  • Pregnancy management
