“My Baby, the College Woman!” Seminar

Join ABQ HP Women’s Health, Pediatrics for healthy tips for the

college transition

 

Albuquerque, N.M. — While starting college can be an exciting time for many, there are a lot of questions that can go along with the transition. ABQ Health Partners Women’s Health and Pediatrics departments will host a free informational seminar entitled “My Baby, the College Woman!” on Thursday, August 7, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the ABQ HP Center for Women’s Health (4010 Montgomery Blvd NE).

 

“We receive a lot of questions regarding college health tips from our patients,” said Rita Leard, MD, ABQ Health Partners Women’s Health Lead Physician. “Our goal is to help women through every stage of their lives, and this includes the exciting transition to college. The goal of this seminar is to provide helpful tips in a relaxed environment for both parents and teenagers.”


Topics to be covered include:

  • Health basics 101
  • Improving immunity while living in dorms
  • Vaccinations and flu shots
  • Insurance and Student Health Services
  • Mental Health
  • Hormonal influences in young women
  • Contraception
  • Physical relationships and date rape
  • Alcohol and substance use
  • Nutrition challenges
  • On-campus fitness

 

“A lot of young women can struggle with the nutritional challenges that come along with college,” said ABQ Health Partners Pediatric Nutritionist Shannon Gregg, MS, RD, LD. “I will be providing easy and helpful tips including ideas for stocking a dorm room refrigerator, eating well at the cafeteria, and healthy, portable options for those not living on campus.”
