HOW TO AVOID STENTING AND ADDRESS CARDIAC CONCERNS

Albuquerque, N.M. — With the national news of former President George W. Bush’s preventative stent, ABQ Health Partners is educating patients how to be aware of cardiac concerns and how to reduce potential risk.

“ABQ Health Partners utilizes radial artery angiography and intervention, which is the best therapy for acute heart attacks,” said Dirk Vandergon, MD, FACC, FSCAI. “This minimally invasive procedure done through the wrist reestablishes blood flow and limits heart damage. For elective cases, most patients can be discharged the same day as surgery.”

ABQ Health Partners Cardiology providers believe that taking care of the heart is one of the most important things that can be done to live a long and healthy life. ABQ HP places a strong emphasis on education and prevention.

“Try to understand your family history and your personal risk factors,” Dr. Vandergon said.

Personal risk factors may include:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Morbid Obesity
  • Family History

ABQ Health Partners offers two Cardiology locations at the Medical Towers and West Mesa Professional Center. To learn more, please visit abqhp.com.
